Prospect Stock Report: WR Matt Clements

This is the first in series of weekly reports in which we will report on one prospect who's stock is on the rise. It is fitting that the first such Stock Report is on Baron Collier High School WR Matt Clements. Perhaps no single prospect is becoming more talked about in Gamecock recruiting circles more than the Naples, FL wide receiver prospect. Rated a 4 star prospect by scout.com, and the no. 3 WR prospect in the state of Florida by Bill Buchalter of The Orlando Sentinel, Clements currently holds offers from Auburn, Clemson, Ohio State, South Carolina, West Virginia, Indiana, and Iowa State. As the season approaches Clements should see his offer sheet grow during his senior season.

The 6'1 180 pound speedster has that rare comination of size, speed and hands that make him an elite prospect. Clements has been clocked at 4.34 seconds in the 40-yard dash, and set school records this past spring in both the 400 m(49.0 sec.) and the high jump(6'4). These skills have made Clements a top priority for Steve Spurrier Jr. and the South Carolina Gamecocks. In fact, USC currently holds the edge for Clements signature, and he could issue a verbal commitment before the end of summer to South Carolina.

In a recent story published on GamecockCentreal.com, Clements told rivals recruiting analyst Tony Morrell that USC is the team to beat. "South Carolina is my No. 1 school now," the 6-foot-1, 180-pound Clements said. "They have just done the best job of showing me how much they want me to be a part of their program. They run a big-time offense, and it seems like I could really make an impact there if I went there." USC has done an excellent job recruiting Clements as both RB Coach Robert Gillespie and Steve Spurrier Jr. Have been working overtime to land Clements commitment. It appears their efforts could be rewarded.

Matt Clements stock is definitely on the rise. Will he be a Gamecock? Stay tuned!

This has been a good topic since the news of the impending Bowman commitment. I think that with a few of the guys being WR/safety crosses, it gives us some leeway to sign up to 7 or so if we have to.
For instance, Mark Barnes is kinda the guy who figures to announce closer to signing day than the rest of them. Almost everyone considers him in the top 3 in the state, and he is definitely someone we would love to have. If we already have commitments from 5 WR plus Davis, would we really not take a commitment from M Barnes? No way, we would still take it and and sort out the positions later.

The great thing about alot of these wide recievers we are onto now is that they have size as well as speed, and this group will serve to deepen the secondary eventually, as well as the WR corps.

The guy I feel for is Inman. He is getting left out in the cold, and he has been in the "circle" from the beginning...

I kinda don't know how I feel about pulling the carpet out from under an instate kid like that, but hey, thems the breaks.

cockfather,
Do you think that Grey, Maddox, Richardson, or any of the guys that have befriended Richardson will take this hard?
Did we give Inman a "commit by this date or you may lose it" type of option?
Have you heard of this souring anyone towards the University?
