WR Jason Barnes 6'4 196 4.46 Charlotte, NC- Barnes is the next in the line of big-time WR prospects from Independence High School. He should emerge as one of the top WR prospects in the nation in 2006. Rivals.com Analyst JC Shurburtt said "Jason Barnes has as much ability and potential as any player in the nation at his position." Barnes was outstanding at the Athens, GA Nike Combine and was noticed there by USC assistant coach David Reaves. Fred Chatham is recruiting Barnes for the Gamecocks. The primary competition for his services comes from North Carolina. Jason and his family were just on campus at USC over the weekend and according to multiple sources, Jason is close to giving USC his verbal commitment. Fred Chatham's longtime friendship with Ind'ce head coach Tommy Knotts and the fact that USC was the first to offer should benefit the Gamecocks.
As first projected by Cockfather Illlustrated back in June, Jason Barnes will be the next commitment in the class of 2007 for Steve Spurrier's South Carolina Gamecocks. The 6'4 Independence High School product has cancelled his visit to Chape Hill scheduled for this weekend. Barnes is currently rated the number 13 propsect in North Carolina, but expect that to change when the rankings are revised during the season. Barnes will be elevated to 4 star status according to Mike Farrell ofRivals.com. Rivals Southeast recruiting analyst JC Shruburtt gives Barnes the highest praise. "I fully expect Jason Barnes to be Steve Spurrier's best NFL wide receiver. He will be a major weapon in that offense. In all his years at Florida, Coach Spurrier never had a receiver that has the combination of size, speed and ball skills of Jason Barnes."

I think Jason Barnes has all the tools to be a special, special player. He is faster than Rice and bigger than Sharpe. How about Marcus Robinson with much better ball skills.
I'm pumped up about Jason Barnes...You can just about pencil him in the Rivals 100 at the end of the year. Another quote from JC read this way....."Those that are not recruiting Jason Barnes, should be."
