Do you think TR will make his visit to Clemson as scheduled and do you still feel good about our chances with him regardless if he takes that visit?
Jacyn,
I like USC's chances regardles of whether obertson visits Pickens County. Accoding to a source I spoke with yesterday, Clemson Head Coach Tommy Bowden is scheduled to be on vacation July 21st. We will have to wait and see what happens. USC is also trying to get Rbertson back on campus before he makes his final decision.
you think there is a possibility that he agrees to the visit to get Clempers off his back, but then cancels the visit at the last minute and announces? (...pipe dream...)
As Tony said, this is a fluid situation. Obviously, if Bowden is going to be on vacation next friday, why should Travian make that trip? USC is working as we speak, to secure the last visit with Robertson.
CF,
Heard any news on summer workouts and how the freshmen are looking?
Also CF,
If you cant comment i understand but which of our Coaches would you per say
(do not know if this is the right wording or not) have dropped the ball on the recruiting trail that various posters have talked about on the various internet sites?
Despite what Tony Morrell says, I don't think we were pushing for a commitment from Willie White. Much like Inman, I think it was a numbers deal.
Cockfather, I posted my opinion on where we stand with WR's on TIF yesterday. Do you agree with my assessment that we end up with: Jason Barnes, Mark Barnes, Michael Bowman, Matt Clements and Dion Lecorn? I think that's an outstanding class, especially when you throw in Jeremy Davis who might be a FS.
Jacyn, I think it's not hard to see where USC lags behind in recruiting geographically. It is in the state of Georgia, specifically the Atlanta rea. Despite the commitment of Addison Williams, USC is rarely mentioned by the top players in Georgia. Those areas primarily belong to Tyrone Nix and Ron Cooper. Neither of those coaches were present at the Athens, GA Nike Camp,a nd really made no early offers to juniors. In order for USC to beuild a championship caliber program, recruiting Georgia is crucial.
Eddy, as far as the WR class is concerned, that is my projection as well. I still think USC will take Keith Graham, provided he has made the necessary progress academically.
Thats who i was thinking of and it seems like Nix,even though a good coach, needs to pick it up on the recruiting end and realize he is not at some small school like Southern Miss anymore.
Cooper has also been guilty of not keeping in touch with Gary Gray. Gray has called and sent multiple text messages, with no response from Cooper in over six weeks. This is inexcusable. Gray is a 5 star recruit that chose to stay hme and play at USC when he could hve gone to any school in america, including Notre Dame and Southern Cal.
That’s freaking unbelievable. How hard is it to pick up a phone and give your best recruit a phone call? It’s not like you have to spend hours on the phone with him. I hope this crap changes sometime in the near future.
cf,
that is completely inexcusable. gray should call reaves or spurrier jr. and let them know what is going on, man.
the problem is being addressed.
CF
I just wanted to say thanks for putting this blog together and sharing your info with us. Saturday I leave for Philly, for two weeks for work and vacation, so when I get back I hope to have heard we have picked up TR and JB.
agree, thanks cf. you do a good job, and put a lot of thought into the blogs.
so...the board is kinda worked up lately over the TR deal.
I really don't think JC is a tater, but I think he overstated that article that Clemson is already beating us in North Carolina, and that we are D-U-N DUN DOMINATED if we lose TR to clemson. I just thought the language was strong and made it sound like we were Clemsons whipping boy when our class will be every bit as strong as theirs.
Thanks for the kind words guys. Since I got out of coaching, the gamecocks have been my only sports outlet and it has always been a passion of mine.
I really enjoy the writing part of this and, as you know, I have always followed recruiting.
Cockfather, what's your opinion of Kyle Nunn. Have you seen him at any camps. Do you think he might be our second OL?
Very well done here, CF! Excellent way to disseminate information. Thanks!
One more question: It seemed we were in a good position for Jabaal Sheard. What's up with the update from Bamaonline?
First of all, let me say that JC Shurburtt is NOT a tater. He is very good at his job and totally impartial. I thought his article on Travian was dead on today. I also think that article will help USC with Travian and Cliff MAtthews because I'm sure they will read it and see just how important they are to this class.
As far as Kyle Nunn is concerned, I really think it is way too early to go on a kid like him. I will be surprised if USC offers. I do know that Nunn impressed Coach HUnt when he worked out for him at camp earlier in the summer, but I don't know if he was THAT impressive to warrant an offer.
The Jabaal Sheard article is very surprising. Just last week, USC was in the top 3. However, I wouldn't get too upset about it. It could have been an oversight on BOL's part to omit SC. Also, FLA and UGA are NOT going to ofer Sheard. I think USC is right at the top for Sheard. ALL USC has to do is push for him and I think they can get him.
Lastly, again, thanks to all of you guys. I like that we had so many comments today on the blog. I am looking forward to football season. There will be a lot to discuss in the coming weeks.
Next week I will be interviewing Brad Lawing and David Reaves for Gamecock Illustrated's football preview. I will post those interviews on this site.
