August 5th Practice Report: Returning Defenisve Player Impressions

DE Ryan Brown- looks good carrying 260 pounds. Should be a very solid player this fall.

DT Marque Hall- I can't mention him enough. He will be the real deal this fall. Hall looks great at 295 and looked more confident and appeared exteremely focused.

DT Nathan Pepper- was very impressive in drills. Exhibits great work ethic and is very coachable. He was also focused and led by example.

DT Lemuel Jeanpierre- Looks lean at 278 pounds. Looked good in drills and shows great effort and is another very coachable guy.

DE Jordin Lindsey- looks much bigger physically, but was displaced on the first team by Casper Brinkley due to his inconsistent work ethic.

MLB Jasper Brinkley will be the big run stopper USC has sorely missed on defense the past four years.

LB's Marvin Sapp, Dakoda Walker, and Gerrod Sinclair may be young, but they are all very athletic and have had an excellent summer. I really like USC's LB corp.

Reserve LB's Curtis Rice and Cody Wells had great summers in the weight room and should be solid contributors.

Yvan Banag could be USC's version of "The Termite". At 5'9 212 pounds, Banag is solid as a rock and sports some impressive biceps. I'm sure Cris Ard would enjoy taking some pictures of him with his shrit off. The fact that Banag speaks French would aslo be appealing to Ard.

CB Fred Bennett carried himself like the defensive leader of the team. The 6'1 senior made one great play in 1-on-1 drills laying out and deflecting a deep ball away from the receiver, saving a touchdown.

CB Stoney Woodson ran with the first team ahead of Carlos Thomas. It is just one practice, but Thomas must improve his intensity and concentration in practice. USC needs his athleticism and man coverage skills on the field.

Redshirt Freshman CB Jeremy Ware lined up with the 2nd team at free safety last night. If Brandon Isaac does not return to practice, the move could become permanent.
