August 6th Practice Report: Top Defensive Performances

*CB Carlos Thomas was back tonight. He was dominant in one-on-one and seven-on-seven drills. The sophomore blanketed receivers and had several pass break-ups.

*CB Fred Bennett showed why he is the leader of the defense. Bennett had two picks and was outstanding in drills.

*CB Stoney Woodson continued to run with the first team, and also had a pick tonight. Woodson is much more comfortable with the defense and will log significant snaps this fall.

*USC's linebacker corps continues to perform well. They are all very athletic, can run, and have good football instincts. Jasper Brinkley, Marivn Sapp, Dakoda Walker, Gerrod Sinclair, Yvan Banag, Cody Wells, and Curtis Rice should all contribute this season.

*DT's Marque Hall, Nathan Pepper, and Lemuel Jeanpierre all had their moments in practice. Hall really looks like a bigitme defensive tackle and is very quick off the ball.

*DT Stanley Doughty just doesn't get it. He is in conditioning for a reason. Instead of exhibiting a good attitude and emracing the conditioning, Doughty finished last on every sprint ,and boitched all night long while walking laps around the practice fields.

*DT Matt Raysor ran hard for most of conditioning tonight. he showed much more effort than he has previously.

*DE Ryan Brown continues to be rock solid. The former linebacker shows great focus and competes on every play.

Let's hope that Doughty gets it soon. We need him.
