A couple of questions to consider

As I walk out the door this morning, I have a couple of random thoughts...

First, where in the hell is Dakoda Walker? I'm sorry but the John Abraham/Kalimba Edwards comparisons need to stop. Walker was tied for the team lead in sacks as a true frehsman and now he's not even on the depth chart? What gives?

This guy has to be one of the most disappointing stories of the pre-season. I say red-shirt him and get him either big enough to play down or tough enough to play LB. Walker appears to be one of the most athletic players on the team, and has the ideal size and speed to be a playmaker...somewhere.

Second, the more I think about it, the more scared I get thinking about a defense full of first time players. Marvin Sapp beaten out by Rodney Paulk, Emmanuel Cook beats outs Walker and Wells. The Brinkleys, Nathan Pepper, Stoney Woodson, and Carlos Thomas will all be first time starters.

FS Brandon Isaac needs to get back after that 3 game suspension. Hopefully his hamstring and shoulder will have healed. USC need some more veteran players with experience on the field.

Wow...kinda scary if you ask me. One common denominator with all these newcomers is speed. All these players have excellent to superrior speed for their positions. Could we see the return of the Joe Lee Dunn defenses of the 80's? Will this defense be called "The Fire Ants" version 2.0?

as long as we don't see the return of Wally Burnham's team defense, I am ok.

LOL random thoughts boy!!
I too am concerned CockFather.
We have a whole bunch of younsters beating out players who had promise last year. Maybe this is good news, who knows.
I just think we all better sit on the edge of our seats next Thursday.
I have a feeling we gonna get the ball to start the game, regardless of wins the toss.

Cockfather, you are a bit harsh with Dekoda. He's adjusting to a new position and has lots of playing left to do this season, much less the rest of his career.

The coaches think these youngsters can play, especially E Cook Monster, who they seem to want to play anywhere they can. "If a dog is gonna bite you, he'll do it as a pup" I always say.

Experience is good, but we needed to fold and draw five new cards after last season's "bend until someone gets bored" defense.

Why use words like "scared" and "worry" and especially "despondent" when we are talking about college sports? Guys, grow some hairies, this is supposed to be fun?

so is his name now officially Cook, E Monster? thats great!

Freehawk,

All I'm sayig is IF Dakoda Walker is the next John Abraham or Kalimba Edwards, he would not be with out a position and let off the two-deep. I also said that imo, a red-shirt may be the best thing for him right now.

Yes, he sti has a lot of time left, but this is a guy that most were expecting to play a key role in the defense, not get beaten out by a true freshman.

I am beginning to hear some things about Hemingway. However, this one is being played so close to the vest, that no one really knows. I would still be surprised if it is USC.

Hemingway would be such a bonus, because I have never even thought about him possibly actually choosing SC.

I would just like to invite everyone to follow the link on the lower right of cockfather's site to my site, for a fun football contest during the season. This is of course the site for information, where as www.randomthoughtsboy.blogspot.com is the site for a little diversion.

RTB, I think that is the perfect way to look at the Junior Hemingway situation. If he does choose USC, it would be a nice bonus, an unexpected treat, so to speak. No need to worry about him if he chooses to go elsewhere. USC will get it's share of big-time WR's.
