USC has finally offered Broome ATH Markish Jones. The 6'0 183 pound WR/DB is a 3 event 2A State track champion. Jones has also been offered by Clemson, FSU, and UNC, among others.

My question...Why did it take so long? The kid plays for former USC offensive lineman Quay Farr, and Farr has been Jones biggest promoter. I would like to see USC land JOnes becaue he is an in-state prospect. I just don't know if USC will still have room when he is ready to decide.

I am not sure why we would have waited this long, since it doesn't seem like anything has changed on the WR/DB front...if anything our prospects have steadily gotten better here.

Are there any kind of character or academic questions, perhaps?

CF, did you by chance hear sportstalk last night? I freaking cracked up laughing in my car...
first caller of the show:
"Roy, I was just curious...after the Travian Robertson commitment to USC last week, exactly like how much of a jack ass do you feel?" click.
Roy wigged out, trashing TR, trashing USC, accusing USC of recruiting violations....it was great. what a fool.

oh, CF, I guess that was you that called in second on the show...eh? just heard the callers name...haha.

yep it was me

I can't believe Roy and that other tater started talking about TR's knee and how he may not even be able to play a down of college football and all that crap...

CF,
I just wanted to say that I really appreciate your work here. I just have a comment that I'd like you to respond to. We are very serious with a caliber of defensive-line recruits that we have never been able to woo to Columbia in the past. Travian Robertson, Carlos Dunlap, DeAngelo McCray, Cliff Matthews (K. Ellis from last year). As much as I want Gary Gray, as much of a statement as landing him makes, it seems to move him from being THE pillar of the recruiting class to being the cherry on top. These enormous, athletic guys are vital to being an elite program and if we can get some of these guys, it seems to de-emphasize the importance of landing a 5-star corner. Please don't misconstrue this as being indifferent to landing Gray, but it just puts things in perspective. Your thoughts?

BGF, I must agee. While Gray is a 5 star rated CB, USC's biggest need in the class of 2007 is the defensive line. This oculd be the best defensive line and wide receiver class in USC history.

Gray is a key to the success of this class because he was the first commitment, and because of the public commitment Gray made last March.

Travian Robertson was crucial to this class. He is an impact player. Should the Gamecocks add Carlos Dunalp, D'Angelo McCray, Cortez Myles, Jabaal Sheard or aMarkeno Lee or Cliff Matthews, etc... they would certainly be on the way to having one of the premiere defensive fronts in the SEC.

cf, you read the article from gatorbait on Garcia? He tells them Florida is second, which is great if he will say that to the gatorbait guys...but just listening to him, man, that will be a great day when he goes public as a Gamecock. He just seems to be such a leader, as well as a great player...I am more pumped about him than anyone, even with the great WRs and DEs. Between Garcia and Smelley, I would have to think one would turn out to be a great one for us.

CF,
How are you feeling Cliff, noticed an article on the clemson about him and saying he will choose on the 17th. He also states he doubts he will take anymore visits. Do you still feel we will make up the ground with him and that he is saying UGA is his leader still to keep his basketball coach off of his back?

I think getting an early commitment from Garcia will be a great boost for recruiting, but I am not more pumped about him than I am about D-Lo, TR, Dunlap, and guys like MArk Barnes, Jason Barnes, Matt Clements and Dion Lecorn. we already have two excellent young QB's and a guy that still has 2 seasons ahead of him. USC needs bigtime D-linemen and playmaking WR's. The secondary guys we are getting will be a welcomed edition too.

Now don't get me wrong, Garcia is a big piece in the puzzle in this class, and he is a great player.

I think that you can stick a fork in Cliff Matthews. He is done. He will be a Bulldog barring a late change of heart....which as we know with Travian, is not out of the question. For some reason Clemson thinks they are getting him, so August 17 should be an interesting day. I would be very surprised at this point if Matthews chooses USC.

CF,
What are your thoughts on richardson starting off on defense when he arrives and what position do you think he would play if this happened?

cockfather said...

I actually think that Q is a natural DT. He is 6'4 270 and can run. He will only gain about 20 more pounds, so which is better a 6'4 290 DT or OT? SEC DT's that are 6'4 290 and run 4.9 usually get $20-30 million signing bonuses.

I would love to see a future DL of Travian Robertson, Quintin Richardson, Kenrick Ellis, and D-Lo.

Yeah thats what we were discussing the other night.

So you think matthews is done? I just remember a poster on TIF saying with each commitment there will be more and more drama. Also noticed he will be here for our scrimmage on the 12th.

cockfather said...

Maybe Matthews is playing the game, but I just don't see it. The basketball cocah is basically with Cliff all the time, and like a member of his family. I think he has manipulated the entire process.

I do know that the staff is working extremely hard with Cliff and doing all they can do.

Cockfather, I'm hearing that we might be placing my favorite recruit, Clifton Geathers at Prep School. If so, are we recruiting him as a DE, DT or OT? Have you heard anything about this situation?
