Today we have a Jason Barnes update, some basketball notes, and a football preview of USC's defensive newcomers.
Well, it is finally here. Media day is today, and practice starts tomorrow. Look for Coach Spurrier or the SID office to make an announcement on a couple of players that will not be with the team this year. It appears that Mychael Belcher's USC career is over before it ever began. It is also looking like Dustin Lindsey will transfer to Troy State, but that is still not 100 percent confirmed at this point. There is one other player that had not reported as of yesterday. It is unclear as to whether that player will re-join the team before practice begins on Saturday.

CF,
I am sure some in the know are not surprised by the Lindsey thing, but I am. I am not doing anything but reciting facts here, with some additional insinuation, but could this have anything to do with the fact that Dustin Lindsey was at USC for 2 full seasons in a college-level weight program and played last season at 6'3", 215 lbs. (per the roster), then if you remember an article coming out in The State after he was suspended, he was talking about how all he was doing was working out and he was up to 242 lbs.? At the same time, Jordin Lindsey was on the roster last year at either 226 lbs. or 231 lbs. (again) after being in our weight program for two solid years, then all of a sudden, he comes into Spring Practice at 248 lbs. He was projected to be over 250 lbs. for the start of the season.
I don't understand the Belcher thing either, he developed nicely from a physical standpoint with the greyshirt (190 lbs.). It seemed like he was in line to contribute at some point.
I believe MB is academics, but not completely positive. I do know he was struggling earlier in the year.
CF, have you thought about an idea for a "hot list" once every few days based on people getting reps in practice, or showing out, etc...?
Jacyn and I can also post some thoughts on practice...we usually stand over by the recievers and where they do the pass skel drills...
Did you see the Rivals article about Hemingway deciding prior to August 26th? any feel at all? seems like he must be pretty sure where he wants to go, despite saying everyone is even.
I don't feel good about him, but that is only because it seems he doesn't let any information get out.
Lindsey's lack of development in the weight room has more to do with his party mentality and extraciricular activies rather than Mark Smith and the weight program. Jordin is now over 250 pounds because he put the time in during the off season.
Belcher was a recruting mistake, but they wanted to honor his scholarship anyway since he ws an in state prospect. The players coming in now are much more suited to play in the SEC than Belcher.
I will be posting practice updates. I may do a "stock watch" on players who are performing either above or below expectations...so they will be either "stock up" or "stock down".
I have no feel on Hemingway, but it will really not surprise me if chooses USC. I think it is probably Michigan or FSU, but, as Tony said on TIF, he is not tipping his hand.
CF
Clemson is ranked 18th by the coaches in th epreseaon usa today that was released, where do you think they end up at at the end of the year?
Jacyn, there are too many variables right now to be certain.
1) Is Proctor up to the challenge? can he make plays on 3rd down? Is he really better than charlie?
2) Will year two of the Spence Experiment be effective?
3) Will Aaron Kelly recover from his surgery?
4) what's the chemistry like on offense between Spiller and davis?
5) How good is Clemson's secondary going to be without Ty Hill?
6) Will J-Dizzy lead the ACC in FG's again this year? If he does, it could be a bad sign.
7) Will clemson find a better punter or will they lose another 1000 yards in field position like they did last year?
8) Will Bowden still stump his toe against Wake Forest?
If they can answer most of those questions positively, then Clemson could have a top 15 season.
Jacyn,
wished you had shared that tidbit on JB with me b4 I made that projection...LOL. Hopefully he will see the light and join SOS.
If anybody is interested me and some friends are meeting up at wild hare in the vista before practice tomorrow. you can either leave me a note on here, email me at jacynthompson@sc.edu, or just show up.
