Nine days and counting until the season opener versus Mississippi State. Steve Spurrier revealed last night that USC will "probably" wear black jerseys in the season opener, which will mark the first time USC has worn that color jersey since the Arkansas game in November of 2004.
Later today, Cockfather Illustrated will take an in-depth look at the Gamecocks outside linebackers, coached by Dave Wommack.

Hooray for black jerseys...but I doubt I'll be wearing black in Starkville. Look for me in Garnet!!
cw,
I think Doughty is third team right now, primarily due to the fact that he did not take the off season seriously enough, and the fact that just because a guy makes 2 or 3 big plays doesn't mean he is a dominant player. What does doughty do in the 40-50 plays he isn't making a play? Usually he is either taking a play off becuae he is not in shape, busting an assignment, or getting blown up because he is short, has poor leverage, and short arms.
The simple fact is that Dought talks a good game. He has never been a dominant player. He makes an occasional play, and the fans and Doughty himself thinks he's great.
Brad Lawing has coached DL for 27 years, that is more years than Jappy Oliver and ty NIx have combined in college coaching. He knows what it takes to play and be effective in the SEC trench-wars that take place every week.
USc needs more players like Hall, Norwood, Campbell, Brinkley, Pepper, etc.. that have more athleticism, longer arms and better motors than Doughty.
As for Doughty not making the travel squad, when I spoke to as source close to the program late last week, that was in doubt. according to a source, Doughty believes that the week of the MSU game he will be promoted to 1st team, and that all of this has just been a ploy to get him to play harder and lose more weight. So, Doughty has not gone hard in practice and has not proven he really wants to help the team win.
So, he could be left off the travel squad to prove a point to him...that he is not all that he thinks he is.
doughty will probably be the 2nd team run stopper. Whwn it is a passing down and Pepper is not in the game, Joel Reaves will probably play, or you could see Marque Hall and Jeanpierre in the game at the same time.
very valuable insight cockfather...thanks for the thoughts. It makes a lot of ense to me. And I'm glad we have a coach in Lawing who really is looking after what's best for both the team and the player in question.
Short arms or not, I think Doughty can help us. And if it takes him not going to MissSt to wake him up, sobeit!! I hope he and Raysor both see the light soon.
I think a good way to look at it is any contributions we get from Doughty or Raysor would be a bonus.
real gamecock, I think that statement about Yellowfin should have remained on TIF. Enough is enough. Cockfather's blog is excellent information.
I agree with the other real gamecock. Keep that crap away from here. No need to bring negative junk here. Keep it to yourself.
Methinks "Real Gamecock" has an iron in this fire, more than just that of a fan. I'm no lover of GC, but I played rugby with 'Fin at Carolina and I think he's a good guy, myself.
realgamecock,
your thoughts and opinions are welcome on my blog. However, I will not allow any posts that slam another poster. for the record, Yellowfin does have good sources, I know who several of his sources are, and they are legit.
I deleted your post and will delete any poszts that attack another member.
I say 8-4. We have six wins in MSU, Wofford, FAU, UK, Vandy and Middle Tenn. UGA, UT, Arky and CU are toss ups. We split those 4 because 3 are at home. We lose to AU and UF.
8-4 sounds about right to me as well.
Mississippi State is wearing white jerseys. SOS said we are wearing black...maybe not all black, but at least white jerseys.
