I spoke with a source close to the basketball program yesterday. With the losses of Kinsey, Trice and Balkman, this year's team will be extremely young. Look for a starting lineup with three freshmen in it.
PG-Tre Kelly
SG-Brandis Raley
WF-Dominique Archie
PF-Brandon Wallace
C-Mitchell Carter.
USC's recruiting class is shaping up nicely with early commitments WF Aaron Ellis, PF/C Sam Muldrow, and combo forward Michael Holmes. USC would like to sign a center to round out this years class. One USC assistant coach spent a good portion of the July evaluation period overseas. In fact, USC had a European bigman ready to come in this year, but USC's admissions department told the staff that it was too late for the prospect to be admitted in time for the fall semester. I would not be a bit surprised to see USC bring in an Eastern European bigman in this class.
Make no mistake about it, 6'8 forward Chad Gray would have been the impact player in this incoming freshman class, and an upgrade in both talent and attitude from the departed Renaldo Balkman. I was told by my source that the staff was absolutely shocked that Balkman was selected 20th in the first round of the NBA draft. It is quite possible that Balkman would have gone unselected had the Knicks not taken him. While my source said the staff was happy for Balkman, they are also relieved they will not have to deal with his attitude and mood swings anymore.
